The "dumb" title is intentional. The studio had, at one point, changed it to Pacific Air Flight 121, but changed it back (due to pressure from either Jackson or bloggers, depending what source you read).
The studio knows exactly what kind of movie it is releasing. Most of the press around the film was centered around the constant blogs about it (I have a feeling there is a good number of us who can relate to posting opinions online, regardless of whether we were asked for them). No one expects a cinematic masterpiece and the title only serves to reflect that. In fact, I'm almost sure they are already laughing all the way to the bank given the outrageous merchandising that is already being done (case in point - a new book called Snakes on a Sudoku, a sudoku book with a picture of a snake behind each puzzle).

I think Snakes on a Plane is about the truest most honest title for a movie in ages. I mean just for example, what does One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest convey to someone? At least with Snakes on a Plane there is no surprises. Right?

I personally didnt like the title either but if Samuel Jackson insisted on it; it tells you a couple things.
1. At least Sam J is trying to show that the movie should be taken as a joke.
2. Sam J is the only notable actor on the movie, you have to wonder if they are trying to leech off his reputation.
3. Aren't you curious what happens when snakes are on a plane? lol
I saw the mid-night preview... go in with low expectations and an open mind and it becomes hilarious as it makes fun of Hollywood crappy movies.

properly....I particularly a lot imagine that each and absolutely everyone thinks that "Snakes on a airplane" is a dumb identify for a movie. i do not mean wide-spread-dumb, yet, like, "Mars needs females"-dumb. Now, the genuine question is: how horribly badly is this action picture going to suck??? I mean, speed appeared dumb because it became about a bomb on an l. a. city bus, even if it genuinely grew to develop into out to be a extremely huge summer blockbuster with the aid of the indisputable fact that action picture MOVED from the first 30 seconds till the perfect 30 seconds. Snakes on a airplane is about...snakes on a airplane...and Samuel L. Jackson in his familiar foul mood. it truly is...only...gotta...suck...

How about Snakes on a Plane will be the WORST MOVIE EVER! How lame is it that the producers made the cast go back and reshoot some scenes to make it gorier and more adult? I have seen the previews, and the snakes look completely ridiculous. I have no doubt that this will become a cult classic, but it will have no real cinematic merit. I can't believe that this script was even purchased by studio execs.

Snakes. Plane. What don't you understand? The concept is so simple that it's genius! Would you have prefered Pacific Air Flight 100?

It fits the movie though. Pure camp if you ask me. I heard they were going to change the name but Sam Jackson wanted it to stay Snakes on a Plane.

i think they did that on purpose. The movie was pointless so they couldn't give it a smart title. I guess the called it "Snakes on a Plane" so people would watch i for a couple dumb laughs
