It looks like a bee with a rust and yellow colors in the body. It does not look like a cicada killer wasp, but like a huge, mutant bee. It's about 2-3'' long and has a loud buzz that accompanies it. I have planter boxes on my deck filled with flowers and it flies around them during the day. If anyone can help, that would be great, it's driving me crazy.

It could be a hummingbird moth.

I was glad to see you knew what a cicada killer was.

It sounds like some kind of hornet. They're big, ugly & loud. Hurts like the dickens if they sting you & you swell up so be carefull. If you have to be around them be sure & tuck a dryer sheet into your waistband or pocket. It helps keep bees, wasps & other bitey insects away so should help here too.

We have those I call them bomber bees and hit them with a bad mitten racket and take them out, one stung our cat and messed him up the vet said he thought the bee was from south America and came here in bulk loads of earth.

Try www.lookoutnow.com-I think it may be a humming bird moth. I've seen them hoovering around my flowers before.
Go to the area that says cooper's pond-they have nice pictures of it.
