Well, France used to market their cars here. I drove a Peugeot 504 back in the day. Weird car, but well-built. Peugeot pulled out of the American market quite a while ago. It was mostly due to new American regulations for automobiles, and Peugeot didn't feel it was worth it to meet those standards. But they continued to sell cars throughout the world.

Renault was bought by American Motors, which was in turn bought by Chrysler, I believe, so the Renault sort of faded.

As for the Citroen (also a weird car), I believe they were sold in the States (I used to see a few, and our neighbors had one), but that company also opted to pull out of the American market.

Love, Jack.

1.) They are hideously ugly
2.) Id prefer an automobile that actually runs dependably
3.) They are smaller than a go cart
4.) Most of us loathe the French
5.) Most French loathe the world
6.) The "new car smell" we get in american cars would be replaced with a combination of bad breath & B.O. left over from the French workers.

Thats a good start.

I guess we don't have the same expects from a car. I am french. It's true that here cars are less wide, and most of the time smaller. Like in the whole Europe. Because these cars are made for the city drives.... We have also access to a lot of different trades.Like, BMW, Mercedes, Nissan, Ford, etc...
I personnaly have a Volkswagen.
Here are some links to the french constructors: Peugeot is one of the bests. (to answer to the person that spoke about "Citrion", it is "citroen"!)

jointly as the above solutions are lovable, and extremely almost humorous, keep in mind that GM and Ford and Chrysler autos sucked rather undesirable returned in the 80's too. protection and emmissions is likewise a non subject; the Euro standards are diverse in some specifics, and you may't take a motor vehicle rapidly from here to there, however the transformations are not that super. the genuine answer boils right down to money. It takes loads of money to get a broking community set up, and since the U. S. motor vehicle industry is mature, you are going to have a no longer common time getting going here, it relatively is no longer proper how stable your high quality is. human beings have their well-liked manufacturers prevalent. seem at how long Hyundai has been merchandising good high quality affordable autos, and that they are nevertheless a marginal variety. same with Kia and Daewoo. If i'm a Euro variety CEO, i bypass to seem to Africa, S.us of a of america, Mideast, jap Europe to strengthen my business company; lots much less opposition etc.

I don't think it's a reliability or dependability thing. I think we in America are all about image and prestige. The French don't offer anything in those categories. Remember that Le Car that was imported from France in the 70's.....Ugly as hell! Plus it was a pos.

Its economic. due to inflation, things in europe cost more to produce, then add transport costs and import duties. a french car would cost a lot more at the dealer than it's american counterpart.
