I have AVG and Spy Sweeper set on a schedule. I also have Road Runner, but my computer is still slow and I get an error report everytime I close down the internet. What's up with my computer?

You need a geek to do an inventory sweep of your security routines. AVG, Spy Sweeper, and Road Runner may not be playing well together. Sometimes when you add a program to a machine that is running a similar program, one of the two (or three) adjusts your machine programming to make your computer run more 'efficiently'. Actually that's more effeciently for the program. That's what could be giving you the error routine--one of your programs could be asking for a file that another program has 'corrupted' or deleted altogether. See if a computer-friend can take a few minutes to track down any missing files and restore them.
Replacement files are usually free once you have bought the original software.
Slow performance usually means too many files on your computer. An optimizing run from a utility program may be able to correct that. Are you running too many programs at once? Too much processing makes your processing center (your mainframe) top heavy with internal processing. Is your security program 'too big' for your machine? A professional level security program requires too much processing for a little home computer.
Check your updates. Not every update helps your programming. Some updates simply put internal queues on your machine to tell you need new devices, or software that you don't really need. This will fill up your processor above capacity and slow everything down.
In addition, your server may be trying to tell you that you shouldn't be turning off your machine. There are some servers, who shall be nameless, that only work their magic when your machine is on--thus, they will constantly flag your machine to compel you never to turn it off.
Lastly, you may have too many library files on your machine. Are you storing books, large graphic files, tons of music, or movies on your machine, or a combination of the above--that could slow things down a lot. Send those excess files to permanent disc and clean out your file library. Are you on dial-up--that could be hurting your downloading capability. If you have a good friend who knows their stuff, invite them over for pizza and computer; if you have a school at your disposal, ask the computer teacher for his suggestions. Good luck--that HELP routine on your top bar is there for a good reason.

Need more information. What error, specifiacally?( i know my spelling is poor)
If possible copy&paste err msg into a blank wordpad / notepad (Start --> run ---> notepad) then into this when you are back online.

My computer is allways running in the background is a statement, not a question, even if it does have a question mark.

AVG components run constantly in the background to check running process for viri as they are executed, but even on a 10 yr old lappy(p166, 64mb ram) it doesn't noticably slow the machine(unless running a system scan)

I don't know enough about spy sweeper or road-runner(unless he's with wiley cyote) to comment.

press {ctrl} + {alt} + {del} to bring up taskmanager, and see if you can identify any processes that seem to be hogging resources. how many processes are running? most systems can 'get by' with 17 - 30 running, depending on hardware.

What computer / operating system (ie win98/2k/me/xp)

have you allways had this error, or is it recent? installed any software lately?
