Monrovia

Monrovia is the capital of Liberia.

James Monroe was instrumental in founding the West African nation to aid former slaves after their emancipation. Many former slaves DID take advantage of the opportunity to go to Africa, although the last slaves were legally imported over seventy years earlier, so it was unlikely any of the Liberian immigrants were actually from Africa.

It was arguable the former slaves at first led better lives in their own country, but Liberia has suffered decades of civil war, and even with the problems with civil rights in the US, I'd say the current citizens of US who are descendants of slaves are much better off than cousins who live in West Africa.

Only one foreign country--Liberia in Africa--has a capital city named after an American president. The capital is Monrovia, named after James Monroe.
