any ideas why my fish just died please read?

i have a bata fish and i was going to clean the tank but the last couple of days the fish was just lying around and i was going to clean the tank, then i saw a group of food in the back corner could that be why p.s. i don't have a filter i have a bubble machine

and i left the tank in the same spot all the time ecept change its water and i left the water temperure the same all the times a fill the tank up

and i going to get another one and my brother has a about 5 gallons tank should i put the new one in that thank or leave it in a 1 galllon tall tank

that was the only fish in that tank and i think i got him about a year ago and i clean his tank about a mouth ago i been very busy

Well bettas tend to be happier in tank with no filters because they do not like currents. But this means you need to be cleaning the tank and doing water changes at least twice a week. Bettas are also VERY sensitive to temperature. I found this out the hard way, and when cleaning my bettas tank I used water that was too cold and it died almost instantly. This was many years ago.. Since then I've done a lot of research so I never do that again. Bad water quality and possibly a sudden change of water temperature (did you move the tank or anything??) were probably the main factors that led to your fishie's death. Food won't kill the fish. But is it possible that he wasn't eating? He may have been sick.. Stress could have also been a factor. When did you get him? If it was recent he may have been sick when you got him. Bettas dont get the best care in pet stores. If youve had him a while, when did you last clean the tank? How big is his tank? Is he the only fish in there? You need to consider the necessary living conditions for a betta to see where you may have gone wrong. Also you should compare the way you had your betta's tank set up, what and how often you fed him to the recommendations. Just be sure to do your best to figure out what caused his death, so that you may learn from this mistake and prevent it in the future.

You have overfed the fish. Watch the fish finish the food and that is the maximum it can take. So the next time u feed less than this maximum and dont leave any food in the tank uneaten. Food will increase the nitrate content of the tank thus killing any fishes. Constant partial water change will reduce this nitrate level

Betta don't need air bubble at all. They belong to the species that can breathe by getting air from the water surface. Of course if you have air bubbles then they will not be too busy going up and down the tank for air.

Never use direct tap water because tap water contain too much chlorine for any fishes. Either use chlorine removal ( get from pet shop) or u just need to leave the water overnight to get rid of chlorine content.

when a betta stops being active and stops eating, it is a sign that they probably have a bacterial infection. the food may have began to rot in the corner, expediting the process, but i doubt it was the cause of his illness. lousy water conditions could have made him susceptible to infection. then sometimes fish just get sick even if you keep the water clean (but you should have been cleaning more often). he should have been treated as soon as he stopped moving and eating.
your fish can live in a one gallon or a five without a filter perfectly fine. he might be happier in the five but as long as you are doing regular (25% a week, dechlorinated) water changes and cleaning the waste from the bottom of the tank, either will do. (one of my males actually prefers to be in a 2.5 gallon, than to have 5 gallons in a divided 10 gallon, just because he doesn't like looking at the male on the other side of the tank. it was his choice.)

Maybe food poisoning or expired? U have to keep the food in the cold dry place.

Recommended to buy filter+air bubbles, if u r too busy sometimes to clean up, u can buy a certain type of catfish ( i forgot the name) to clean up ur tank, it eats molds, and have a funny flat mouth and belly thats usually stick on the glass like fridge magnet :P

Sometimes they willdie from too much food ,sometimes they die from the amonia from not cleaning the water that often but then they will die if you change it too often its a lose lose situation . plus they only live for about a year or a year and a half i have had alot of them

I think your Bettas die from old age or maybe stress. It may be scared of someone that it starts to starve itself and refuse to breathe.
