I am almost 4 months pregnant and am visiting my dad in a few weeks who just found out he has shingles. I have had chicken pox but clearly my unborn child has not. Is there a risk of infecting the fetus? Any other risks?

My friend was exposed to the chicken pox virus in the middle stages of pregnancy. Her doctor gave her an injection to help stop the baby contracting it.
Go see your doctor I'm sure they can advise you and put your mind at rest.

I don't think it would be a good idea, I have always heard if you are pregnant to stay away from someone with the chicken pox. Call your doctor and ask to be 100% sure if it is safe.

I have shingles and my Doctor told me to stay away from my pregnant daughter. The baby can contract the virus, do not go around anyone with shingles while you are pregnant, they must be crusted over and healing. My doctor said to stay away another week.
