While 120/80 is desireable -- it isn't normal -- and going above that doesn't necessarily mean that the blood pressure is high. A diagnosis of hypertension requires blood pressure elevated beyond 140/90 on more than two separate occasions.
140/90 is high -- so, I'd say that, alone, is dangerous -- with increased blood pressure comes an increased risk for stroke (and other issues).
I recently had horridly high blood pressure, and it was about two weeks before I could see my doctor. Running at about 178/110 I wasn't too sure I'd make it.
I definitely cut out sodium and caffeine -- but, I went beyond that. I increased my B-Complex intake, and I drank about 120 ounces of water each day. I also took one asprin every four hours -- this kept my blood pressure lower, but not low. It's typically about 116/72 -- so the 178/110 was sky-rocketed . . . the water and asprin brought it down to about 140/102.

OTHER than cutting out salt and caffeine?
that is the first and most basic way to lower your blood pressure
decrease salt and sugar intake
caffeine by itself will cause dehydration - this will lower your blood pressure eventually but is dangerous - caffeine will also stimulate your heart to pump harder - this might not be desirable if you are trying to lower your blood pressure
you might want to relax
eat healthy food for a change
dangerously high is when you have headaches, visual disturbance and confusion

No antihystamines.
Deep breathing and relaxation. The more you stress about the higher it will get.
Normal is 120 over 80. Anything above that is high.
