Basically this occurs when air is trapped in the lungs and you can't "catch your breath" because the air that is in your lungs won't expell, allowing you to inhale fresh air. This is basically asthmatic in nature and in adults can be caused by smoking or other respitory irritants or diseases. In premies it is caused by a lack of surfactant in underdeveloped lungs. Your Doctor should answer any and ALL questions for you, and don't be afraid to ask.

hyper always means excessive. hyperinflated lung field means excessive, large lung tissues. severity and symptoms dtermined by age, usually 30 to 70 yrs old. mostly caused by ashtma or emphysema. other factors may be COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), bronchitis or smoking(which damages lung tissue)
