We as in the US or we as in the world? I can only make a testement to the later. It may be hard to believe, but I'm pretty sure that we have more respect for human life now then any other time in history.

Think about the Romans...any citizen would kill a slave or another person on the street just because and it wouldn't even be prosecuted as a crime unless it was a member of the ruling class that got killed.

Now we have international treaties that prevent torture, war crimes courts, pro-life marches, an end to slavery, arms sales restrictions....none of these is perfect, but they are a step in the right direction.

Things may look bad, but I believe that they are getting better over all. Since we didn't have the press 1000 years ago, we have no way of knowing how many wars or how bloody they were around the world. It just seems worse now because it is portrayed that way.

All we can hope is that the human race continues to make progress towards protecting human life.

People do, every day, how?

By not helping the needy and the less fortunate, especially if they have abundance,(like Donald Trump, Bill Gates, etc.) people should really stop thinking : "It's all about me, what about me, or what's in it for me" when all the self centeredness stops, and people (starting with this country) begin to share their many blessings with the poor and send help, donations a helping hand to the needy and dying in Sudan and many other parts of the world, I will never understand how people with so much wealth resources & abundance do nothing, how can all those people sit there and do nothing, then things will begin to change just a little and then again, it's only a drop in the bucket, (only in that area by the way.) A time will come when they will be accountable, we all will be on the day of judgement)

I think we are becoming more caring. The Greatest Empires of all times were respected because they had the power to kill off there enemies, once they couldn't they became killed off themselves. Its a Dog eat Dog world. Even in USA's short history of dealing with Indians, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, slavery, even World War II. Innocent and civilian people will killed without a second thought. I believe that we have progressed to the point that we care so much about the innocent that our enemies are using it against us.

Man has always been that way. We are not high enough on the evolutionary plane yet. The way things are going, we may never get there, unless we wake up. We let hatred rule us and listen to people that have no idea, that in reality they speak petty thoughts. What is done on the earth will not effect the universe, it may only lead to our destruction. In time if we servive we may or will effect the universe.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Sometimes a few innocent people have to die in order for the majority to prosper.

It's the way humans have always been. Survival of the fittest, which includes the most powerful.

"We" became so careless about human lives??? Speak for yourself! "We" care so much about human lives. "We" also recognize that some human lives are better-off terminated. Such as my own if it were that of a starving child. There but for the grace of God go I. Or you. Careless, shmareless. Humanity is what it is.
