Actually Dylan's voice would never qualify for 1st tenor at the Metropolitan Opera! Listen to his early work before he became a 'Rock Star' on songs like "Blowing in the Wind" "It Ain't Me Babe" "Like a Rolling Stone" "Subterranean Homesick Blues" and "The Times They are a Changing" he was singing in a Folkie way; like his hero Woody Guthrie, to mainly college audiences! Those were also the times he played Harp Live & on records! Smoking, overuse and old age don't help anybodys voice but when he started his voice had that certain something too!

Nothing wrong with Dylan's voice. Just happens as you get older. Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Roger Daltry, even Bono all sound different now then when they first started. It happens over time. Though I'm sure the smoking doesn't help much.

The man is a great song writer but has always sounded like a nasal tornado. Time to retire from performing Bob and just keep writing your wonderful songs.

I think he always sounded rough in his songs, I have not heard anything recently. So I think he always sounded like that, he is a great artist.

It's probably his weird vocal cadence that did it, the throat wasn't meant to do that.
