Unnoticed is an adjective, describing the noun hooting.

A verbal is a noun or adjective formed from a verb, so yes, they could be called verbals.

I hope this helps.

it's a participle. Participles are always used as adjectives. In this case, since the sentence uses a linking verb, then the predicate adjective (unnoticed) modifies the subject (noun), making it an adjective.

blah blah blah

In layman's terms, "unnoticed" is an adjective

it is not a verbal, what was unnoticed? the hooting. Which modifies or describes a noun and you have your answer. It's too bad this question has to fall into the "higher education" group.
