If you understand what is being asked and you can make a contribution... do it without correcting.

I spoke Polish and German until I was 6 years old and then I learned English and Latin. When I used either of the languages and if I made a mistake in proper usage, grammar or pronunciation, I wasn't offended when someone corrected me. I found it to be helpful. But then, if someone poked fun at me for making a mistake, it didn't bother me because I knew 4 languages and the person making fun of me was limited to 1 language.

Translations aren't exact. This is understood better by people who are bilingual or who know multi languages.

If someone gives you a hard time about the way you speak, don't let it bother you. Practice makes the master. The more you use a language, the better you get at it.

No, it is not ok to offend them. Our world would be much better if all of us could be a little more tolerant of each other.
