The ending of WWI set up WWII, as the reparations set on Germany after the First World War and the Depression put conditions in Germany such that the Nazi Party was able to play on those conditions to rise to power.
In that way, it could have, but once Hitler began his rise to power, I don't believe World War II could have been avoided.

That's what Chamberlain thought, though he went about it the wrong way by trying to appease Hitler. If the world had actually taken a stand against his anti-Semitism, repression of basic human rights, and 'union' with Austria and Czechoslovakia, then yes, WWII could have been avoided, or rather, any conflict that stemmed from Hitler's refusal to comply with the international community would not have been on such a destructive, worldwide scale. It's all about nipping megalomaniac dictators in the bud before they get too much power, which is why someone had better do something about North Korea before that situation turns into WWIII.

After the extremely onerous provisions of the Versailles Treaty, it seems predictable that some day Germany would want to escape the very tough reparations imposed. I think the answer to your question is yes, absolutely. War could have been avoided in many ways. It certainly was no secret that Hitler was building an army prior to Poland for example. The international community stood by and watched the development of a huge and potent German war machine when early intervention of a diplomatic or economic means could have postponed or even ended this development.

This is a silly question, of course it could have. An asteroid could have destroyed the earth, and then there would be no more world to war in. More realistically, however, the answer is both yes and no. Perhaps if the terms in the treaty of Versailles had been less restrictive, or if Hitler had died during WWI (he was wounded, you know) then perhaps the answer would have been yes. There are many possibilities in the past, and it's not up to us to second guess things; what happened, happened. And to Hitechmal, the UN wasn't created until after WWII, he's thinking about the League of Nations (which the US wasn't part of.)

Totally! The UN knew that Germany was surpassing their limit, and were not going accordingly to the restrictions that were applied to them. Their military number ran way above 100,000. They didn't pay any of the charges. The UN knew all of this, but decided to watch - thinking hopefully germany would stop when noticing that they werent gaining any attention. WWII so could have been avoided.

Yes. The issues that lead to WW2 were put in place by a revengeful peace settlement of WWI--mainly by France.
And a sick Woodrow Wilson. If he had been able to be more vigorous and actually work for his principles, WWI could easily been "The War to End All Wars".

Probably. WWII was an almost direct result of WWI and the treaty of Versailles which left Germany economically devastated. Without these things it would have been much harder for Hitler to gain the support and power he did.

Not realistically, Neville Chamberlain (U.K.) tried to make Germany stop taking land diplomatically and failed. The only way it would have been avoided would be if Germany fought each country individually and defeated them all.
