Because they listen to right-wing news and radio shows which preach blind faith and conformity with the Administration's ideals. It's basically brainwashing, and people just lap it up and agree with it unquestioningly and uncritically.

Yes, we are tedious, that way. No matter what our politics, we all feel passionately (one way or the other!) about our country.
Perhaps this is because America is a new country (compared to other countries which have been in existence for hundreds of years), and our principles of equality are, historically speaking, experimental. Everyone here is aware of this, even if subliminally. We feel the fragile nature of our Union.
Each of us has his own idea of how best to improve the U.S., but the key word here is improve; we love our country with passion because we can see how rare a place it really is.

We believe that nationalism is a dirty word. That's how Hitler and Stalin spoke.
Nationalism is the belief that your country and culture is superior to all others, whereas patriotism is simply a love and devotion to your country. We espouse nationalism, but, because of our superior nature, we cloak it in patriotism.

Many of us were raised to be patriotic - regardless of political affiliation/slant. We aren't perfect as a nation, but neither is the rest of the world.....

The only thing we have in America is Freedom.
It was our gift from the founding fathers for ceding control of the government to them.
That was the bargain and we're happy to have that.
