The reason your nails are fragile is because there isn't enough moisture in your nails anymore. Many household detergents and chemicals tend to dry out your nails. Some ways to strengthen fragile nails include putting vasiline on and your nails, wearing cotton gloves to bed, soaking your nails in olive oil, and bath oilcapsules. Beware of nailpolish remover because they contain acetone and that can also dry out your nails causing them to become fragile.

You are probably calcium deficient. Try adding more to your diet and coat your nails with clear nail hardener as well.
