I need some good reasons to convince my mom into letting me learn how to play the violin, along with drums. I am already playing drums, and I love the violin too. I really need some good reasons. Throw in how much a cheap violin cost too please.

I learnt to play the violin as a kid, also learnt drums, piano, guitar, recorder and clarinet!! My parents were always supportive and encouraged me to learn so start with that by saying that you are a creative person who loves to learn and develop and its unfair of your mum to hold you back.

Then tell her you just want to try it for a trial period and if it works out ie you like it, you have a natural abililty/talent at it and you have time to practice etc then you would take it further - that would to compromise, she might think its not a permanent thing and you may change your mind - at least it will get you started.

Tell your mum you would love to play in orchestra/band and be part of a great string section!

Tell your mum you would also like to break out as a solo artist like Vanessa Mae and Nigel Kennedy.

Tell your mum you love music and see your future career in music therefore you would eventually do a degree in music and will need to know how to play various instruments - better to get a head start!

If you go to a university in London as a student you will need a part time job, you could become a busker in the London Underground (they normally play violin or guitar!).

1. Because you love violin music.
2. Because violins are beautiful instruments to play & listen to.

But what I'd recommend is getting yourself a part-time job (either babysitting or doing what my son did at 13 - offer to help people load groceries into their cars for tips). Save up enough money to buy a used violin at your local pawn shop. That way you'll show your mom just how much you really love violins & the lengths to which you'll go to learn how to play.

violin is a very expressive instrument (if played expressively, of course...)
and
the violin can create a very beautiful sound. some violin pieces are known to make people cry. (it's that touching!)

you can try telling your mom that playing the violin will broaden your horizons in both people and music. also, the experiences you receive from playing violin (pre-concert nerves, compliments on your playing, difficult musicians, concentrated practice for a music competition, time management...) will last you a lifetime.
