and my imediate family are living together happily in my childhood home that has long burned down. these dreams make me sad and i wish i didn't have them but in some way it is nice to see my grandparents again. any opinions to why i have these dreams and what they may mean?

Something must have triggered to dream that. Perhaps movie, tv, or friend's conversation. Anything can go into your mind to make you dream about the past or the present.
As far as your grandparents, it could be due to love or love from someone, maybe you don't get it as close as your grandparents gave you. That could trigger you to dream and go back to the past in your dream to find what you are missing.
p.s. insight is more important than some websites people post, they only have fixed meanings.
