If you're only looking at statistics, yes. Many young people don't know what they want in life and are too immature to make the marriage last. Of course, there are exceptions. But it depends on the individuals involved. My aunt got married at 18 and she's still in a happy relationship with her husband. Still, if you really think your high school sweetheart is your soulmate, it wouldn't hurt to wait a few years to get married. The general rule of thumb is to establish yourself economically (finish your education) before you consider marriage .

It doesn't matter if your young or old - the key to a successful marriage is marrying the right person. And you can find the right person even if you are young. I got married at 21 (hubby was 22) and after 7 years all is still great. But it is all about trust, a good relationship in the bedroom, friendship and having reasonable expectations of your spouse. And phrases such as "starter marriage" pollute our society with the notion that marriage is something to try on and if it doesn't fit just right, then just try again. Marriage is not a shoe - it's a job. A wonderful, challenging, fulfilling and crazy job that demands you show up everyday and give it your all.
