The Explorer is 4wd. I can fabricate engin mounts but if the automatic transmission will not bolt to the engine then I don't want to get involved

No. The Explorer was made for a 4.0 or 5.0 and the transmissions are completely different. The Taurus has an AX4S or AX4N transmission and the Explorer has an A4LD or 4R55E in 1995. Even if you transfered the entire powertrain from the Taurus, and were able to make it all fit, you would then have to change all of the electronics, the powertrain control module and the transmission control module. By the time it's all done, you could buy a remanufactured engine and transmission or another vehicle altogether.

What?? What the Hell are you thinking? Going from a 4.0L to a 3.8L?? Those are some of the worst engines Ford has made. Let alone being in a Taurus. Nothing will fit right at all. Different design, and setup from the get go. Pull your head out of your dairy aireer...Gees.

Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable are essentially the same car, different trim. If you get the 6 it's not a bad car. You get about 10 years out of them.

I dont believe you can since the motor came from a front wheel drive car, it cant be bolted to a rear wheel drive transmission.
