does the line of rulers family mean en empire

No an emperor is a king or queen who rules over more than one country, as in the British Empire, when they held sway over large parts of the world. Now that doesn't always make sense because the King of Japan is called the Emperor, but it probably has to do with past history when Japan held sway over more than one country.

A family which rules a country through more than one generation is called a dynasty.

Not really. It means it's a dynasty.
To have an empire, the family would have rule over many countries.
