why does a search bar come up in internet explorer and how do i get rid of it?

every time i open internet explorer a search thing comes up on the left hand side...I hate it...I absolutely hate it, does anyone know how to get it to go away???

It could be that you downloaded something that has a toolbar.
What does the search bar say?

Try this,
Open Internet Explorer
Select "Tools"
Select "Manage Add On's"
Look for anything that says "Toolbar" under type and disable it.

there's a search icon at the top of internet explorer, just click it and the search bar should disappear.

You can get search bars from installed program downloads, such as yahoo messenger.you can go to start,control panel, then add or remove programs, look down list for the one you dont want, being very carefull. double check, then uninstall tool bar you dont want, goodluck be carefull. or you can click on tool bar and drag it down to the bottom of screen, its fiddly. first section is for downloaded toolbars. it sounds more like youve moved the tool bar.
