Re films and pastimes?

What do you guys make of Matrix? For my money this film is just an eyesore, a dereliction, but what do you guys make of it?

I still think the Matrix movies hold some important thoughts and generate good dialogue. I think that people less educated and more interested in special effects and big hollywood productions have made it the "eyesore" it is now.

The acting may be a bit sub par at times, and the scripting definitely gets muddy but overall I think it's still an important film in our time. If nothing else I still enjoy it because it makes me go hmmm...

I can't think of a more philosophic movie in the passed 10 years.

And there have been some decent ones (Eyes Wide Shut, Adaptation, Fight Club).

The ideological abuse and consummate presentation of the "Brains in a vat" hypothesis to all those moviegoers was perfect. Really, even the casting of an idiot (who's acknowledged AS stupid in the movie "Not too bright..." by the Oracle) like Keanu Reeves is carefully constructed as to FORCE the passive idiot-viewer into global Cartesian skepticism.

The conclusion of the film is a total justification of the most brutal violence... and you Have to accept that outcome based on the intuitions which tell you what reality really is. It's very subversive, and not just a lark of hollywood. You should treat it more seriously since SO MANY people watch it, and are convinced by the pablum whether they realize it or not. The level of integration among symbolism, theory, and cinemotography is un-parallelled...

Star Wars is just another Campbellian hero story, it doesn't even approach the level of detail in the Matrix, which I could talk about all day.

Cf. Putnam, Descartes, Baudrillard, Kant, critical race theory, feminism, computer science, AI, socio-biology, free-will, personal identity, skepticism, along with all the religious overtones.

This movie was shot like a rocket at the masses, and they've integrated into their psyche. On every dvd collection, no matter the denomination or worldview, you'll see this film most. Perfect propaganda. I can't believe you scoff at such a pinnacle piece of work.

It is a film of the computer-game generation with the fast-track and slow-mo pictures. Perhaps that was why it was such a success. The reality versus illusion is a bit like Plato's cavern, with only the enlightened who see the Truth, I honestly didn't get into the story, I found it a bit lame. But it's an action movie for entertainment so I suppose it does its job.

The Matrix the original was a very good film i thought and the concepts and plot was very good but the sequels absolutely stunk. There was some good ideas in the sequel but character development and motivation of the plot just got totally lost in self-absorbed narcissim.The money spent and graphics were good but after watching the first 5minutes of the sequel you want it to finish there and then and to watch it to the end takes a lot of endurance. Bad scripting and story development show how a good idea can become a very bad movie.

The first Matrix movie was and is a solid piece of entertainment, if a little pretentious. The Matrix sequels are awful and should never have been made, they're boring and confusing and even more pretentious than the first one.

The Matrix was worth watching just for Keanu Reeves, Corrrr forget the film!!!

Only kiddin' (but he is one hot guy) the film was a fantastic film although I'm not sure if I ever saw past Keanu :-P :-P :-P

First film was/is great!!

But Id rather lick piss off of nettles than watch the others.

Tried three times to watch the last one but lost the will to live.

I really liked them. Good story, made you think 'Wow, what if?', gripping special effects, and I so, so would love to be Trinity!! Neo is the cool form of superman!
