The Spanish had many advantages over the Incas, Aztecs, Mayans and other native peoples that they conquered. First they had advanced weaponry. While the Natives only had spears and rocks the Spanish had guns, swords, and horses. The Natives never seen any of these things so they were incredibly terrified and confused. Secondly the Spanish brought over many diseases that they were immune to and the Natives were not. However, the Natives did have more people then the Spanish which could have been used to their advantage but was not. Like I previously stated advanced weapons helped the Spanish defeat the Natives because the Natives had never seen such technology. This allowed only a few dozen Spanish soldiers to defeat thousands of Natives. But disease is the leading cause of death of the Native populations. Another factor was the written language. The Spanish had a written language which allowed them to spread information quickly. However the Native peoples did not. The Spanish sent information back to their country and informed the people about the vast amounts of wealth that could be found in the New World, as well as the ease of destroying the Native peoples. Meanwhile, the Natives had no written language so while some tribes were already decimated by the Spaniards there was no way of informing other tribes of what was to come so they had no time to prepare. There is a vast amount of information on this subject.

Technology. The Spanish had steel weapons and armour the natives had wood and stone armour and weapons
the Spaniards had fire arms the Natives didn't
some of the Spaniards fought on horse back none of the Natives did the Natives didn't even use wheels
But more deadly than that the Natives had no immunity to common European ailments. So many died from ailments that the Spaniards would hardly notice

I keep thinking it was the Portugese, but either they or the Spanish, and Italians, were too scared to finance some of the earliest explorers, and then later they caught on and did so. They did have much more advanced "technology" in sailing and weaponry than the natives, but they also had greed as their driving force, whereas the natives seemed to be just damned surprised at these big boats with big sails and these different colored humans who arrived on their shores in them. That "surprise" or relative naivete made them sitting ducks against greed. And maybe they had been smoking too much of that "funny stuff" to know reality from fantasy. That sure jumped up and bit 'em in the asss!! God Bless you.

they had steel, sickness(small pox, measles, etc) and gunpowder. If the new world had had these Spain would haven't succeeded.
Which shoots down the theory that the Chinese reached the East Coast of America before the Spanish (1421), because they have these technologies as well.
