there is no dumb question. Yes women can get their period and not ovulate it's called a avoluntary cycle. However, usually there isn't a schedule. If you are ovultaing you have more regular periods like for example you may get it every 30 days where as if you aren't ovulating you may get it 28 days one month then 36 day's go by fo rthe next cycle and 31 for the third etc. There are a few ways you can determine if you are ovulating and that's cervical mucus and you can use ovultaion test kits that work like pregnancy tests. You can also talk to your doctor to help figure out whether or not you are ovulatiing. Sometimes history plays a roll and depending on what birth control you were on before hand can all effect ovulation. I am a pure example of a woman who needed clomid to conceive because I wasn't ovulating. I now have a 1 year old baby girl and I am taking clomid again to ttc #2. I will be happy to dicuss clomid with you more if you happen to need to go that route. Good luck!

Everyone's cycle is different. There is a myth that woman ovulate 14 days after their period begins...but that is only an AVERAGE and each month can be different. The other thing is that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days.... so if you are having a shortened cycle one month and you have sex right after your period and you ovulate earlier than day 14 than yes, there is a chance of getting pregnant. They only way to know is to know exactly when you ovulate. There are several ways to know and some are more effective than others. Some can only predict before ovulation happens and some can only predict that is has already happened. The absolute best info I can give you is to go read a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! . It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths! Even if you don't get into charting and everything....it will help you in so many ways!

Yes you can still have your monthly period and not ovulate. The only way to be 100% certain that you weren't ovulating would be to go to a Dr. Even healthy fertile couples still only have a 25% chance of conceiveing each month. 4 months isn't very long seeing as how it could take over a year for some people but if you want to put a rush on thing, talk to your Dr about getting put on CLOMID. It highly increases your chances that you will be pregnant within 3 months. Best of Luck.

It is not a dumb question, you might have your period every month and not be ovulating or you might skip months because you are not ovulating, it goes either way. I had a friend who was having her period every month however she had a very irregular cycle but still she was menstruating ever month, her Ovulation kits were coming out positive around about the middle of her cycles and she was not getting pregnant. She went to the doctor and he did some fertility tests on her and her husband, her husband's came out normal but hers suggested that she had high levels of prolactin, which was keeping her from ovulating, she was having the surge and everything but her egg was just not being released, he put her on Clomid and problem solved. If you are skipping periods it is because you might not be ovulating, but if you are having your period every month on a regular cycle then you should be fine I wouldn't worry about it.

A woman that doesn't ovulate still gets a monthly period. This is why most woman don't know if they ovulate or not, everything else seems normal.

I do not ovulate because I have pcos which does not allow me to have regular periods. I went to the fertility doctor and he did an ultrasound and he could tell be my follicles not maturing enough but I still got pregnant with the help of clomid. Metformin is what they put me on for ovulation for the pcos.
