Avoid the Ipod.

True it has grown big, but it is only second to $ony in terms of awkwardness.

I say go for one of the generic copies, they far cheaper, have less restrictive/stupid software to play with it and cheaper to replace once that little touch-sesitive pad becomes de-sensitised(No matter how much you look after your equipment that technology has an incredibly short life-span)
my MP3 player only 512mb(About 6-9 CD's) and thats usually more than enough music to last me till i get back to my lappy and i can change the tracks. it cost£20 (about $38)
AVOID SONY -
They screwed me out of £200. (about $380) I got a HiMD minidisc. It developed problems with the laser unit(Also happend to the playstation/playstation2 - exactly the same problem)
The software is real awkward, copyrights all your music(good copyright, i couldn't smash it) and is real hard to remove from your system. 1yr on and i still have sony software components on my lappy.
