Depends what you're going for.

First, they'll take your information and then will get your stats (weight, blood pressure, heart beat, temperature, etc.) A standard checkup, after getting into the actual doctor room, will begin with you sitting on the table. The doctor's assistant will ask you to disrobe from the waist down, and also to unfasten your bra. S/he will give you a paper sheet to put over your lower half for modesty. No need to be embarrassed: doctors and assistants have seen it all before. They may go over your stats with you and ask some questions, if needed. The doctor will check your breasts for lumps. It's a little uncomfortable, with a bit of squeezing involved, but one who does it often won't hurt much. They will probably press and generally feel from the outside of your abdominal area a bit too. Make sure you've gone to the bathroom already.

Then the glove-wearing doctor, with the assistant in the room, will ask you to lay down on the table, scoot to the edge, put your feet in the stirrups, things located at the end of the table. S/he will probably ask you to relax and spread your legs wide open, then will put a metal or plastic speculum inside your vagina, all the way up to your cervix. They may even do it with two gloved fingers instead, it just depends. This is to check the cervix, general shape and condition of the vagina, to possibly help detect infections, and more. There may be a quick swab of the cervix for the Pap smear. This will be with a cotton swab on a long stick. You'll hardly notice. All this will only be psychologically uncomfortable, meaning, the only discomfort most likely will come from an almost stranger looking at you intimately. It will go much better, without pain or discomfort, if you are relaxed instead of tense.

Breathe deeply. It doesn't take long at all. When they pull out, they'll most likely put your samples in a container or two to send away to the lab, ask you to get dressed, and then you'll be done. Schedule for your next appointment as needed, basically.

If you are there for ultrasounds, that is different. I assumed you were there for a regular checkup. Best of luck to you, and congratulations for taking care of an important aspect of your health.

A good GYN, will explain things step by step before she does them. That way you will have no surprises and be more relaxed. First the doctor (or a nurse/assistant) will talk to you to take down information. If you are a minor, depending on where you live, it might be required that an adult accompany you. A vaginal exam takes place on the table and it takes only a minute or so. Breast examination only a few seconds. There is a sheet between you and the Doc so its not so embarrassing. Its very important you go through it because it can save your life. Women can get ovarian or breast cancer very young.

It's a doctor, so expect less of the softy tough than at a paediatrician. I hope she's female because they understand what a speculum is. Nowadays they are not cold. Some discomfort will be felt when a speculum is inserted in the vagina, a stretching. It's just so the doc can see well. Then for a pap smear, a twinge like a cramp. At one point she/he will palpate your abdomen. That's okay. It's all over very quickly. Make sure you have emptied your bladder and everything else before you go in. Oops, i hope they talk to you first to make you comfortable. Tell them it is your first exam. Don't worry and have one every year. It's important and saved my friend's life.

well my mom had to go for a normal checkup and the gynecologist said that i should come in for a first checkup, i was 14 at the time and just turned 15. she didnt do a pap test but she felt around on my stomach and gently felt my breasts. she did stick her finger up "there" but its normal. i was very nervous but gynecologists see it all the time. its also not as uncomfortable if its a woman that does it rather than a man, atleast thats how i felt.

Its not that bad. I've been seeing one since i was 13 and i'm 18 now. Its a little uncomfortable at first cuz its a diff. place but its not really as bad as you think. And if your going for a pap or pelvic or sumthing that has to do with being examined down ther,,,,,,,,,,,,it a little uncomfaotabe at first and stuff but it only lasts like two minutes. Its nothing to get scared about. and if you want to, you can ask the doctor to explain to you what he/she is doing and they will tell you. But i wouldnt if i were you it makes it over quicker if you focus on sumthin else. GOOD LUCK
