hey I've got one as well!!
I've had mine for all my life and well I've lived!!! don't go swimming, or at least wear good ear plugs, never dive into water or swim to far under water, don't go scuba diving!!
if you get pains in your ears see a doctor, go for check ups, if lots of wax comes out of your ears go to the doctors, DON'T STICK ANYTHING IN YOUR EARS!!!!!!! Try not to get your ear wet in the shower, having a perforated eardrum it might affect your hearing a little bit, when i was little my Mum took me to the doctors before she found out i had a perforated eardrum and he said i had been lip reading a lot!! If having a perforated eardrum really bothers you, you could have an operation which takes some skin from somewhere on your body and cover the hole. this operation hurts apparently!!!!
good luck and don't worry!!! I hope this helps!!!

I've had a perforated eardrum for years, makes flying easy! Just a little hearing loss so far. In order to avoid infections I keep it plugged in the shower and pools so as not to get water in the inner ear. Good luck.

Ah - a follow up to the 'bleeding ear' question I just found!
It can be pretty serious - it could have a lasting effect on your hearing.
Or could lead to conditions like tinnitus - where you hear a high pitched whine at all times. Real hard to sleep then!
But most often it will be okay if you follow the instructions your doctor gives you carefully.
If you have seen a doctor and had them look at it properly you could be ok... but DO NOT take the word of Yahoo Answers - GET TO CASUALTY NOW!

Its pretty bad...not terminal unless you get a severe infection, which later leads to septicaemia but nasty.
Its very painful - especially when infected (which is quite easy if water gets into it) but if you see a dr they can sort it out.
Some can heal, others dont...I know 1 person who had 1 which seemed 2 heal after a month, on the other hand I know a couple of others who've had them for about 20yrs so far.

I had one, left it untreated and it led to a hole in my eardrum. I had to have surgery to graph it, which did not work well. I have had extreme hearing loss since I was 21 years old. It's not fun going through life not being able to hear properly. Please see a doctor..The one good thing about it is when it's noisy outside, I sleep on my good ear and noise doesn't bother me...:)

If you continously have ear infection, it's actually a good thing since it will drain instead of putting pressure to your ears. If you swim a lot, purchase a pair of good quality ear plugs. Make sure you see the ENT doc at least twice a year to check your ears and he will also have you do an audiogram.

It's pretty bad. Constant ear infections< hearing loss, and it can lead to Menengitis.
I don't know about the healing part, mine has been that way for 17 years, and it sux!

It will usually heal within a month or 2 by its self. Can get infected so don't go poking it with your fingers. Any loss of hearing is usually temporary.
Don't get water in it either.

It's painful, and there will be hearing loss even with surgical repairs.
