Both The government of Lebanon and France have said they will not enforce resolution 1559 that called for the taking away of all arms of hezbollah. What is the point of having more people watch terrorists attack. The UN has been there for 28 years and sat back while Syria controlled Lebanon until 2005 and watched Hezbollah import all those weapons. Why noting was done is simple. Too much money going from Iran to France and other corrupt countries just like Saddam bought his relief from having things done until the US tired of the stall tatics. The next attack will be the start of WWIII and then the european countries will understand how their failure to get things done cause the whole thing.

Putting the Lebanese army anywhere near this situation, is like giving Hezbollah a big leg up, strategically. How can anyone think that a country like Lebanon, that openly acknowledges it's support for Hezbollah, would have an army opposed to Hezbollah. Now, we all know, that goddamn France stuck it's stupid @SS in the middle of this truce thing, so it's no doubt that feeble brain Chirac was the planner behind this nonsense.

The whole world knows that France is just another goddamn muslim country, sucking up to islam. In my book, that makes France the enemy and should have no voice in attempting to resolve world issues. The quicker we learn to avoid France and it's destructive posture, as it pertains to the US, the better off we will be. France has truly become an obnoxious paper tiger!

The Lebanese Army are too weak and Hezbollah's influence is still significant in the South.

the UN cant send peace keepers from Europe because the only European country that has soldiers experienced enough for the job is the UK and they are regarded as a formal colonial power. US Forces would simply make matters worse. Arab & African peace keepers would be ineffective.

The best solution would be to ask Turkey to provide soldiers. They are tough and experienced, and would be seen as neutral.

No, they won't control them.

In a few weeks Israel will complain that the Lebanese Army and the Multinational Peacekeeping Force are not moving swiftly and aggressively to contain Hezbollah.

Then there will be an incident of some kind and Israel and Hezbollah will start fighting again.

It is very unlikely the Lebanese Army will be able to control Hezbollah, and frankly I don't even think they have a mandate from their government to try. Standing down Hezbollah will depend on whether they want to do it themselves (unlikely) or whether Israel gets back on the case (more likely but not probable).

In a word, NO. If they were able to control them they would have done so before now and asserted their right to the sovereignty over Lebanon on behalf of its people and not allowed a private army to dictate how part of their country should be run.

No. The deployment of the Lebanese army is just a pacifier to shut everybody up. The real problem is not Hezbollah anyway, and never was. The real problem is Israeli occupation of Lebanon, parts of which it never gave up, and Israeli aggression. Hezbollah is but a reaction to Israeli violations and violence. Get rid of the real problem and it is solved. Get rid, or attempt to get rid of Hezbollah and you solve absolutely nothing at all.

In any event, the violence will continue and the UN will be totally useless because no one wants to address the real problem, which is Israel.

No. The Hezbollah will do what they're going to do, until the conflict is resolved.

Of course not. Fanatics not governments rule in the Middle East. The fanatics will soon be back wrecking their evil.
