not at all. I think if the date fears the parents of the girl, they are more likely to treat the girl with more respect.

If he promises to marry her she isn't off limits? Just kidding. Don't intimidate him or she will just meet boyfriends without your knowledge and tell you she's going to the mall. If SHE is clear on being off limits, you will be fine. It's better to know the kid she's leaving your house with than to wonder who she might be with because she was embarrassed to bring him home to meet you. Besides, he will be intimidated just by the fact that you've looked him in the eye before he walked out the door with your daughter. You're "the dad", automatically scary.

Parents have a fiduciary responsibility to ensure the safety of their children (yes, even if the child is the same size or larger than the parent). By technical definition, under age 18 is classified as a child by legal terms. It is necessary to establish a basis for interest, learn to respect the person prior to allowing them to escort the daughter from the premises, and to know his or her parents well enough to have a frank discussion with them if the relationship progresses too quickly.

Not wrong to intimidate him, just make sure she knows you love her. Pay lots of attention to her and tell her she's beautiful-- if she knows, she won't feel like she has to go out and get validation from other men-- she'll already know how special she is. So many loose girls have fathers whom they barely know (not absentee fathers, necessarily, just regular fathers living separately in the same house). They just want to feel special (and fail miserably, then go out and try again with the next guy). Good luck.

even though its like an unwritten law for fathers to do this to their daughters it really isnt fair. you should trust your daughter enough that she is dating the right guys for the right reasons. she will make mistakes with guys but you just have to be there for her to help her through it. embarassing her will just make them feel more uncomfortable together and chances are your not going to have much of an effect on what she does with him. if she wants to have sex your not gonna stop her. embarassing her might just make her not want to be around you as much and she might feel like she cant tell you things. you wouldnt like it if you were in her position so just lay off a little because its dumb to think the date your teenage daughter is out with will end up being her husband.

Oh my this brings back memories... I'm a single MOM and I had to do it all.. So when My daughters boyfriends would come over I was on them like white on rice... When the new ones would come in to meet me,I was ready with my plan( it worked for me,),I would tell the boys,I was their FATHER before I was their MOTHER (surgery) HA,HA. LOL So they better be on their best behavior or I would take them out to the back yard and take em down a notch.... Most of them came back, and had respect for my girls...

It's not wrong if your a dad, but don't intimidate him to much where he is scared of the family. Its really embarrasing for her. Just act the way your family always acts, don't change because he is with her whether it be a good or bad way just act yourself. That way he knows what to look forward to in the future.

If you think your daughter is waiting for marriage, boy are you in for a surprise. Chances are, she is NOT a virgin. Nothing against your daughter, it's just how things work. If she wants to have sex, she will. No threat you can come up with will change that. If the guy ants to have sex, he will try to talk her into it. Nothing will change that. I assume she is living with you, so she is in High School.....I wouldn't count on a marriage proposal anytime soon (and if there is one, watch out!!!)

yes and no..yes b/c u know u can scare him off and she can like 'hate' u fo it and u dont want to make your lil girl mad at u.. but no b/c u have to set boundaries wit kids these days... i mean if u act like u dont care then he's gonna think that its okay for him to do anything and everything to your daughter but if u act like u care then he'll know wuts wrong and wuts right to do wit your daughter and if u scare the crap out of him then he'll probably never try anything with your daughter and you wont have to worry about nothing...
