I did the Landmark Curriculum for Living -- that's the Forum, the Advanced Course, and the Self-Expression and Leadership Program -- back in the mid-Nineties.
It was, and remains, the most powerful and effective learning I've ever participated in. Not a day goes by that I don't find myself using one or more of the distinctions I learned at Landmark, either in resolving conflicts with other people, engaging friends and co-workers in projects I care about, or in seeing where I could be more effective -- and, sometimes, what I'm doing in the moment to keep myself from being effective. It's not magic; it can be hard work, but if you do what you learn there, you can transform your life -- that's really what it's all about.
Yes, they "sell" their programs. A LOT. All the time, it seemed like. That's just the way it is -- they don't advertise, so the only opportunity to get the word out is in the classes, and through friends and relations. Or at least, that's their story. :-)
And yes, I saw people who seemed like they were addicted, and I think I saw why -- at the core, the subject matter of all Landmark programs and seminars is your own life. For some, it can be VERY addicting to spend a couple hours a week gazing into your own life. It's all a question of what you want to get out of it -- for me, getting out and LIVING my life has been the payoff. I haven't done a Landmark program in almost nine years, but I still rely on what I learned there to help me make decisions, accomplish things, and have a richer, deeper life in so many ways.
And their promise has certainly held true for me -- I am living a life I love. I have a fabulous job working full-time from home (and a lot of what I learned at Landmark gave me what it took to ask my boss if I could do that!), I have a wonderful relationship with my wife (she did the Forum a year or so after I did, got a lot out of it, and it was enough for her), we have three great kids who make us proud every day, and I'm very active in a number of community organizations that I believe in and from which I get a great deal of happiness.
Highly recommended.
