"Bollocks" is a slang term meaning testicles in British English, but more often used figuratively. It is rarely used in the singular. It has come to mean rubbish or 'Crap' or even used in a similar way to Bullshit, and this usage is international. One of its singular forms is used to describe the malfunction of an operation, or messing up something "Dropping a Bollock".

From most answers here I would say they are common but on one of my video games (Grand Theft Auto- Liberty City Stories) an Indie music radio host ponders whether he has been in Liberty City before but it was in the future. he then comments that his "hummus has gone bad. I should not be seeing tracers. [pause] Bollocks!!!"
This seems to be a slightly different context as if almost an Australian "Oi".
I looked it up in the slang dictionary and found that most uses of the word are British in origin but not necessarily exclusive. You'll have to scroll down a little ways but check it out...

Bollocks is British slang for "testicles", but it also is slang for "bull s***" or "Baloney"; it means something's untrue or crappy.

If you "Bollocks something up" it means you've screwed it up.

However, the dog's bollocks is something really good. There's a mountain bike called Dogsbollox.
