I don't mind dining alone and I think it shows you are very independent and secure being by yourself.

I rarely dine out anymore, as it's cheaper and better to stay at home. But once in a while I do dine out alone, more so for lunch than for dinner. At casual and fast food places it's no big deal; at more upscale places it can be a little awkward, but I always bring something to read or leaf through. When I dine out alone for dinner, it's either at a place where other lone diners can be found, or an ethnic restaurant whose food is worth the ritual.

In general, I don't care what judgments are made about me if I'm dining alone. I interact with people all day long, so I'm very happy with having a good, quiet meal by myself, so I can collect my thoughts. When I see couples at tables, many seem unengaged or unengaging (or both), so I don't feel like I'm missing out on a lot. And when I'm dining out, either alone or with my partner, and see a single diner, I don't think much of it. After all, s/he could be seeking quiet time just like I do, or perhaps s/he is visiting from out of town and wants to get away from the whirlwind of coworkers, interviewers, and family.

Dining alone can be very nice if the restaurant is cool enough to keep you busy. And is a great way to meet people. Ive actually been asked to join a table on more then one occasion because i was eating alone . Nothing wrong with eating by yourself But sharing a meal with some one special is really great as well.

I dine alone, often, and I enjoy it!

I'll bring a book or newspaper to read while I eat. Or, I'll bring my notebook and write a few lines to a poem.

Why eat alone? My wife and I work opposite shifts; so, I have a lot of time on my hands, and I don't want to make noise at home to wake her up. I'll go out to eat, and browse the stores or drive around aimlessly, so she can sleep.

I strongly dislike going out to eat on my own, and rarely if ever do it. Drive thru doesnt count. LOL. I think the reason I dont like it is because when I see someone eating by themself in a restaurant, they kinda look like they have no friends or are a loser. Now I know many people who DO eat at restaurants alone, and they are professionals, so I already defeated my own answer. But to me, dining loners kinda look sad or pathetic. Dont they have at least one friend who will share a meal with them? Just my own views. Please forgive me.

Dining alone's fine. It gives you time to relax and reflect. It also allows you the option to people watch, which is fun.

And if you choose to not dine alone anymore, you can often find someone new to join. So, it's flexible too!

Dining seems like people and tinkling glasses and wine and silver flatware and china, and soft music and flowers in the middle of the table and dressing up and smelling good, and well, you know...
whereas dining alone, to me, is just "eating."

I do not mind eating breakfast or lunch out by myself. I see many other people doing the same thing. Plus, you have to get to work, so it doesn't really take that long.

Dinner, on the other hand, no way do I want to eat out by myself. I feel like I look lonely and have no life or something. Besides, dinner takes longer to eat and there is no one to talk to, etc.

I dont only because I always think "Oh look at that poor person........they must be so lonely......." when I see someone eating alone. Plus I am a waitress and we get a lot of people who come in alone, they are usually bussines people........they almost always ask for a table way in the back or in a corner.....They are uncomfortable...

I eat out alone because I am widowed and my children have moved to other states. Cooking for just me is not always as nutrious as eating at a restaurant. Most of my friends still have spouses and family at home, thus it's just me. Lonely at times, just adjusting.
