Ok so far I've gotten responses from people who know NOTHING about Fennec's. They are small and easily domesticated. They are easily litter trained and very friendly. I've done that much research. I was just hoping someone out there had one, knew the market value, and if there was a permit required in MI.

No I will not get a cat. There are members of the household who are alergic.

I've read a bunch on them in general. When they are bottle raised they are just like cat's only sans alergies. I'm just wondering if they are cuddlers, how much they cost, if there are breeders in the MI area and if they need permits.

Yes they are legal. No permit is required but an import permit is required.

Another problem would be vet care. The only vet that could treat this animal is a wildlife vet - the 'regular' vet needs to have a wildlife license to treat exotic animals.

Fennec Foxes are not a household pet now or in the future. They are not domesticated animals and therefore, do require very careful socialization. They are very active animals and need an outlet for their energy. Digging habits and trying to escape may be a nuisance to deal with.

Please stick with a non-exotic pet. These are not animals that should be domesticated. You may find more trouble than pleasure from these beautiful animals.

Please read with care: http://www.fennecfox.com/

Fennec's are adorable I do agree, but honestly, I have never heard of anyone keeping them as pets. Check with your local humane society as to their legality. If they don't know, they can refer you to someone who will. As much as you won't want to hear it, I have to agree with most of the other posters. They are wild animals. Even if you do suceed in getting a domesticated fennec, or even domesticating one yourself, they will still retain their wild tendancies. Also, if you're really serious about getting one, they might be fairly expensive and/or difficult to acquire. It's possible they would require a special wildlife permit.

Good luck though.

It is a wild animal so, no, it would not be a good pet when it grows up and I bet you would have to get loads of permits.

By the way, hon, DON'T tell me I don't know about Fennec foxes. I've been down that road and done that. I've put all of my efforts into trying to train one. Don't beleive everything you read about how they're easy to train. They are NOT.

it is merely the way our criminal and political gadget works. you've community ordinances, then you definately have state regulations and regulations, and then there are federal regulations and regulations. All are somewhat a lot determined by technique of the overall public, or perhaps worse yet each now and then particular interest communities get their way. And to operate to the confusion, a majority of those diverse regulations and regulations might want to correctly be at odds with one yet another. Welcome to our mixed up political gadget it really is the united states. yet more effective on your meant factor. some species have become domesticated and hence standard by technique of society, even as different species are considered 'unique', which of late has grow to be a grimy be conscious. no longer that tthese so referred to as unique species couldn't make tremendous pets, merely that they don't look to be the usual species that human beings have come to settle for.

not sure if they are legal in Michigan but why would you want a fox as a pet? No wild animal makes a good pet. You are going to make this poor animal miserable trying to take care of it. If you insist on making this BAD decision then do your homework. Find out all you can. Talk to anyone and everyone you can who knows anything about these animals before you even think about getting one and make sure you know what zoo or humane society to take it to when you decide that its no longer cute and cuddly but a WILD ANIMAL who is ripping your house apart.

LOL The problem is not that these people don't know about Fennec's, it's that you're not getting the answer you want. It's a wild animal, try a ferret, it's litterbox trainable, and way more fun! =)

are you nuts? Do not try to domesticate a wild animal. I'm no PETA person (they are really nuts). I am a livestock and animal husbandy specialist. Get a friggin cat!
