A house appreciates in value and if you put money into it you more than likely will get it back.
A house is a no-brainer to me. I have friends who drive cars that cost more than the down payment they put on a house.

I would rather the house. I bought my house when I was eighteen. I didn't have my own car at the time and shared an old van with my husband that our inlaws gave us. My husband and I both drive our cars to the ground and though financially we are doing really well, buy only used vehicles. When my son is older and if I change my career I would consider a nice new car but for now we need cars that are kid-friendly and can handle being treated a bit rough.
