There's no set amount of paragraphs, but there are basic rules to follow. Make sure that you have an introduction and conclusion. Your body (all the other paragraphs) should have a main idea that is clearly stated at the beginning of the paragraph. All the information you include in the paragraph should be supporting details.

Depends on the essay, but I will assume your essay is just a standard essay. Usually you need an Introductory paragraph which will include your thesis statement for the essay or main idea of the essay and a little about the topic. The body of the essay is next, and it can include as many paragraphs as you need. Please don't go overboard, but choose the 3 strongest reasons or ideas in the essay and write a paragraph about each. You will end the essay with a conclusion which will normally be 1 paragraph wrapping up the essay and stating your final points. You also might want to rewrite the main reasons for the essay (3 of them) in the last paragraph. That is a basic essay. For a bigger essay just stretch the middle paragraphs (body of the paper) out and add more ideas or topics or reasons, etc... Hope this helps. Rock on.

As many as it takes. There is no rule about how many paragraphs make up an essay, nor how many pages make up an essay. Sometimes a teacher will assign an essay, and give a word count. Most paragraphs are around 250 words, although they can be more than that or they can be less than that.
If you're having problems in breaking your essay into paragraphs, the main rule about a paragraph is that it contains one main thought. That means everything in that paragraph should pertain to whatever you talk about in the first sentence. Once you wander away from the topic, you're into another paragraph. Check with your teacher on this.

At least three-- the intro, body, and conclusion. It really depends on what your teacher specifies. Three would be the bare minimum and you would get a D grade.
