I don't know if people fear death, per say. I think people fear the consequenses of death. I, for example, and not affraid to die, but I'm afraid to die [unexpededly] leaving a huge burden on my family and other people who are important to me.

It's a control thing.
No matter how much influence you have in this world, how many friends, possessions and all that, you'll still lack the power to delay your end on Earth. I think that scares people. Fear of having regrets, fear of leaving stuff behind, fear of unfinished business, fear of losing what you've worked for.
It's when you realise that you'll only have done what you've done when you come to die that you get over this. So do the stuff you need to do now! Tell people you love them everyday, then there's nothing to fear. Maybe a simplistic way of looking at things, but hey, it works for me.

lots of reasons, first off since its the great end here many religions sprout up to tell you what they think is on the other side even though unless they travelled out of their body they dont know about it. and isnt it interesting these religions do not want you to explore those things that would help you explore after death. christians use that fear of death to tell you to believe them so that you wont suffer from hell when you get to die. anyone that has had spirit journeys will tell you that the only hells that are on that other side are the ones we bring with us from this side. and i like a previous person who said its a fear of unknown. well knowledge is the direct enemy of fear. when you know something it no longer causes you any fears. so learn and know what death is and you will no longer be afraid of it.

I have no idea. I don't fear death, I just avoid it: after all, if nothing else, I have some kind of desire to live. But if death comes it comes. If I don't fear death, but I fear tigers, I'm afraid that tigers are going to cause death, and I don't want death.
Why don't I want death? I just assume that I don't. It's not something I can logically justify, unfortunately.

People are afraid of the pain that usually accompanies death. If you are fortunate enough to die in your sleep then you have nothing to fear.
Some people are worried about an afterlife, but that not real fear just uncertainty.

Because we love life. So, we don't know how is the other life, if we would go to a better place or if we deserve another place. Besides, when somebody dies, she or he is looking not pretty anymore, so we think, that is the face of the death.

Mostly all people are scared of things they know nothing about, whether it be death or something else.

Because it's permanent. You can't change it once it happens.
Other things in life you can change. Don't like your job, car, house, bf/gf, husband/wife? Well, get a new one. With death, you can't go out and get a new life.
