Well...your "boy toy" was less than honorable. No benefits, the servies do not reward these problem children.

1. No, there are no degrees of an honorable discharge. There are three discharges that can be given administratively - honorable, general under honorable conditions, and other-than-honorable. There are two that can be given at a court-martial - bad conduct and dishonorable.

2. No. An honorable discharge will not, in and of itself, prevent someone from getting a federal job.

3. Generally, the other-than-honorable, bad conduct, and dishonorable will all preclude reenlisting, and most will prevent or inhibit future employment with the federal government

No, not unless he can get it changed.
Less than Honorable means he was a problem child that no-one wanted under their command. He kept his nose clean enough to avoid a bad conduct discharge.

perhaps some people purposely quit their armies to join the army of god? or does that make god a direct threat to existing military juntas like the Marines?

I don't think so. It is like getting fired from a company.
