Why should there be? White people, especially men, [which, I am a white female] have enslaved the Africans, killed Native Americans and Mexicans, and denied women basic human rights. Why should there be affirmative action for the people who have denied so many others the right to live as a human being should?

I' ll only say this. any lowering of standerts or preferential treatment based on the colour of the skin I find degrading . If I were an African American or a member of another visible minority, I would find the suggestion that I needed a helping hand, VIA lowering the selection criteria, or through percentage based hiring practises, highly offensive .
Visible minority citizens should be the first people to be upset at such a concept. The colour of your skin should have no baring either way on your ability to do a job but your education and qualifications do.
I would say give the minorities the tools to compeat through better education rather then implementing hiring quotas.

The colour of your skin has no effect on intelligence. anyone with intelligence can be taught and they can learn to be every bit as efficient at any job as the next guy.
The real problem is Racism that keeps minorities from getting equal funding for education. Racism that keeps more qualified minorities from getting jobs.

It goes both ways, there are just as maney black racists as there white ones. We all need to figure out how to be tolerant of differance. What a shitty place it would be if we were all the same.

White people have been volunteering to assist minorities. Isn't it about time non-whites take the wheel and drive. If they do, I'm applying for a point guard position in the NBA. I heard the Lakers are looking for an applicant.

I don't think they should have affirmative action no matter what background you are. If they want equality there should be no minorities we are all Americans.
If they can't get a job by their qualifications they shouldn't get it.

affirmative action is reverse racism. it should be the best man / woman for the job. in NYC they want to make the written test for the fire fighters job easier because African Americans have a hard time passing it. fire dept. is predominantly white

Any sort of affirmative action is wrong in my opinion!!! the fact that their is affirmative action is to correct the past mistakes which leads to future mistakes!!!

Interesting, we too here in houston are becoming a minority.

My Step-dad was physically assaulted by a black man as his job and the company was afraid to fire this guy (he had assaulted other people as well) because he was black....that is what my SD's boss told him, that is BS.

Of course, my SD left and has a different job now, but come on, physical abuse at the work place?

Affirmative action is bad no matter what race is involved. Affirmative action is government sanctioned racism.

But that is just my view.
