Where are you getting your data? Teachers and cops are not paid like that. Divide those in 1/2 and you are more accurate to their actual pay.

First off, hey "cosaxteacher's", the data is right on, my wife is a teacher and my brother is a cop, so what the hell are you talking about? keep your hands off the key board unless you are 100% sure of accusing someone of the wrong data. With that said, teachers are under paid even though they have allot of time off, The children of today are our leaders of tomorrow, so we can not skimp out on there education. As far as cops, I do not mind there high pay checks so long as i can sleep at night knowing that i am safe. I do live in a nice area, so i am lucky. Maybe they should think about how to spend some money in the "not so nice" parts of the island to get the crime rate lower.

Cops make nowhere near that amount in NYC unless they work an unhealthy amount of overtime. As for teachers, I'm not sure but I would say in NYC 80k is definately what they deserve. I would think the figures would be similar for LI.

I beg your pardon but please get your facts straight.Teachers work most of the year with less days off than federal employees. I have counted the days and compared them to my husband;s holidays and vacation days. he has more. I have to renew my teaching certificate by taking non-reimbursed classes on MY TIME. I am a teacher, care giver, nurse, accountant, secretary, counselor, keeping 50 to 60 parents and their kids happy day after day. this doesn't even speak to my administrators that want nothing less than miracles. You try taking 25 to 30 children who have been put in front of video games and television for most of their life and teaching them to listen, behave, get along and learn something in the process. then you are required to have them meet test standards regardless of whether or not they have a decent home life, have enough to eat, can speak English. This is the tip of the iceberg. Walk in my shoes for a day and see how you feel. I dare you to go and volunteer in a school for a few weeks and see how you feel then. And if you want a salary like that you do this for over 25 years with a Master's degree in Education.

I think cops are overpaid by about 20% and teachers are underpaid by about the same.
However some cops are worth more than 120K and some teachers are not worth 20K.
I think that a merit based system should apply to both professions. If you are provably good at your job, you should earn more.
But that is not the system we have...

it is conventional driving force's ed to instruct to pull to the spectacular and stop. it is likewise conventional in Emergency Vehicels Opperator's courses to instruct which you specially bypass on the spectacular of a motor vehicle except there is not any different determination. i'd challenge a wager (from experience) that long island drivers are detrimental, yet no longer as undesirable as Boston drivers. The secure subject to do is bypass as some distance good as a threat and stop. If the driving force of the emergency motor vehicle is sensible they gained't rear end you.

It would certainly be a very big change if Police and Teachers were ever paid too much. They are very underpaid for the services they perform. I don't begrude either whatever money they can make!

Teachers and cops should get paid a lot more than what they do. This goes for EMTs, firefighters, and social workers, too. I don't understand why sports players get millions when the people our nation relies on most get paid squat.

People in both industries do very important jobs, both overworked, both underpaid. I don't think they are overpaid at all.
