My "soon to be ex" wife (of 32 years) wants to hire a $2,000 lawyer to "walk us through the divorce." We are doing an uncontested divorce and are not arguing about any of the divided belongings. She is just afraid we will do something wrong.
From everything I read, a Simplified Dissolutionment in Florida is simple if everyone agrees.
Should I pay half of the lawyer's fee if I don't want to use one?

It's tough to get all the paperwork right without an attorney. Here are your alternatives:
1. Don't use a lawyer. Do all the paperwork yourself and risk screwing it up and finding out 5 years later you're still married and now a bigamist.
2. Don't pay 1/2. She pays all of it, which makes him "HER" attorney. No duty to be fair, or honest, or evenhanded. He can screw you over (and even has an ethical duty to do so if she asks him to).
3. Pay the $1,000 and be done with it.

Your choice.

I think when it comes to divorce you should always make sure you have a lawyer involved just so that all your i's are dotted and your t's are crossed....you don't want any mistakes that will bite you in the butt later on....it sounds like things are amicable. I think paying for half sounds reasonable and it will keep the peace.

Good luck!
