the image that comes to my mind, is of a guy stand on the edge of some safety rails next to a river, about to jump in.

When I hear that song it shuttles me back to when I was sectioned and in the hospital. There was a man there who sang it every medication time. The nurses told him to stop it every time and to take his meds and stop being silly. I think for him the drugs didn't work because he didn't want them too. But its that time and his face that come to my mind when I hear it.
Good question by the way. One of the best tonight for me anyway. Thanks xx

It is for the appropriate generation an expression of dissapointment.( For me the smiths) I feel like other contributors that a skinny prat with big shoulders barging ppl is not cool and not good video. However this is a great song. The bands best by far.

For me it just conjures up a guy splitting with a girl he is deeply in love with, and trying to blot out the pain with drugs and alcohol, but the more he indulges, the clearer her image is, and he can no longer get stonned or drunk. But have to say, it doesn't get me like Bittersweet Symphony, that is a TUNE!!!

It's sad, lonely and desperate and there is no way out for this person. They can't even get to the places that drugs took them too any more. Yes i think this is a Goodbye song.

It makes me wish that the drugs did work so Richard Ashcroft would stop whining! Its such a boring song!!

It reminds me of watching my dad die of cancer after a fairly long battle. So its a bit of a tear jerker for me.

Just to add in this video mr ashcroft is just strumming his guitar. the walking down the street was bitter sweet symphony

It makes me think of grabbing a gun and shooting myself there and then. It's a dull, dreary, dismal song for people who have died inside (mainly middle-class over-30s). No wonder folk are depressed in this country.

plzzzzz go to exministries.com it explains how much music has an effect on us. The spirits follow us. Music is the only thing that your brain can't reject whether it wants to or not.

This Song (in my opinion can be interpreted incorrectly)

I see it as someone getting old, reflecting on what they did not attain in life and losing people who are close to them.
