Yes, I did. Most are humble sort of guys from small hometowns. They like to go out and relax. They have stress that regular guys don't have. Sort of that "live hard play hard" mentality.
The bad part was the other girls when you go out. They are competitive and mean. I'm glad my man wasn't impressed by their lack of class. I can't say if the rest are though.
Scheduling sucks. I have a normal job, I keep normal hours - it just wasn't easy there.
Learning how scummy some of the most famous players are was a downer. You see things you wish you never did. I've never thought of one particular great one the same way again.
Traveling to watch the games was nice. I have been to some great cities.
Other than that, it's just sort of a gypsy lifestyle. It gets old after a while. I will never speak poorly about my ex. He's married now and is probably still the great guy I went out with. No regrets.

I not only dated a hockey player, I married him.
He was retired from hockey at the ripe old age of 30. Played with very well known players in the states but was not picked for a major position with the Leafs. He got divorced from his first wife and then I met him. His job after hockey took him out of city for ten days when we met and he was home for four, while we were dating. I worked for three of those days he was home, so we saw each other for one day every two weeks for a year. We played squash, swam, went to movies, you know. The usual for a year. We moved in together, got married and then when his job wasn't taking him out of town, I slowly learned that one talent they had perfected as an athlete was drinking. So became my life of mental abuse which led to physical abuse, which I have zero tolerance for.
I found his personality was totally self -centered. He accused me of the very thing that he had been brought up with. The need for people to accept and dote attention on. Telling him how good he was, how he is the best. He was not able to give me affection, encouragement, at all. Movies, dinners out, visiting friends, family became a non existent event.
His alcoholic tendencies drove me to the point of asking my girlfriend for advice. Without me knowing, she had mentioned to her husband. He finally asked her who was asking her all these questions and he immediately called me at work and gave me advice. (he is a cop)
My memories are not fond. Total of 6 and a half years of my life wasted. But I found out what a true alcoholic lives like and what he puts family through. (sisters, brothers)

Yes - no names, please. Their schedules suck - you're meeting planes (or busses back in the day) in the middle of the night, most of them were Canadian and really didn't have much of an education because they went into Junior "A" when they were 16 and basically had to skip school.
One who was the neatest went to college while he was playing and went to Law School after he retired. He ended up as a GM and was very successful. Nice guy.
Most of them are thugs who are VERY impressed with themselves.
Then there's the one who, about 6 years ago, avoided arrest only by paying a VERY large settlement to his girlfriend. The team had to pay too because they knew he had this "problem."
There are girls who hang around the teams and are referred to as rink rats, and other, worse names. This particular player had a long line of girlfriends, treated them all terribly, while his wife and kids were still in Europe.
He should have been arrested - but he was a STAR!!
