think they are special enuff to have a 'congressional black caucus' and many other organizations as well? why dont we have a 'white congressional caucus'? dont those blacks who are members of those organizations realize they are deepening the divide between themselves and the rest of the usa by making a separate group only for their color? it doesnt advance their cause; on the contrary it keeps racism in the forefront of our society. people are people right? white, black, brown, yellow, it doesnt matter....we are PEOPLE. duh

You are correct. People want to be treated fairly and be part of the solution, they should not segregate themselves. You can still be true to your "identity" (white, black, gay, straight, Asian, Italian, whatever) and still be an American.

These "organizations" like the CBC think that only they can speak for blacks in America, like all blacks (in this example) are the same.

There are several specific organizations in Washington for every possible interest group.

There are issues unique to the Black community that warrant special attention. I don't agree that these groups perpetuate racism and divisions between white and black. I doubt the rednecks who burn crosses on black peoples lawns can spell caucus let alone know what the congressional black caucus is.

There are more issues associated with being black than with being white. Only a generation ago, black people were still seen as subhuman; and there's still a lot of prejudice out there.

It'll take time, I imagine; but sooner or later, once people realize that, as you said, "We are PEOPLE, duh"... then there won't be as many issues associated with being black; and there won't be a need for any special groups.

These caucus members , like the Hispanic caucus, don't represent all the people in their district. Since they are really about power and money, it doesn't bother their conscience.

I agree with you totally. It does divide us more, although I have always felt the way you do about the seperation thing, I never thought of it that way. But it is true.

I do agree about the issue factor one bought up before me though

Human stupidity needs constant attention and we certainly need specialists. It's also the power struggle in competition, propertied over the propertiless......

since white people have so much to do with this world...........why should we not have something that is just dealing with blacks?
