Any ideas on how to decide what to keep and what to get rid of. There is just too much in that room, and it constantly turns into a disaster area. It's becoming clear that I can't organize clutter.

None just give them a box, have you ever noticed that kids can spend hours playing with garbage... but a new toy only for a day or two then it is never picked up again! heh heh heh

GUess it depends on the age, i would get big totes and have everyday toys and put some away then switch them up every so often so they dont get tired of them, and you dont always have a mess!

best of luck

Get a toy box and put the toys that fit there, that is what my sister does. Make sure that the child puts the toys back in the box right after he is done playing, that way the room wont turn into a disaster.

NEED? none. Lots of kids survive with nothing at all. It would be a great thing if you could teach your child an important lesson (not sure how old he/she is though!) and take his/her old toys to a shelter or something and share them with kids who have nothing.

Of course, let him/her keep some favorites!!

Children "Need" far less "stuff" than you thinkl !. I like the idea of empty boxes. Crayons are always fun for creative endeavors. Also scissors (under parental supervision of sourse!) They also like to emulate adult activities, soe helping us with "chores" actually are a challenging task.(They can begin to master their environment). Anything which encourages them to be interactive rather than passive(too much TV,even--horrors! computers!!) actually enourages brain development. We still do live in the REAL world, although it seems as if the virtual one is rapidly encroaching on our lives.

Watch what the kid plays with and let him keep that. Get him to help you sort stuff to give to kids who don't have anything: My nephew used to have the same situation in his room, but he wouldn't give up anything until he learned that he could give things to younger cousins, or to poor children.

Good luck!

Get rid of the toys that you see they don't play with.

Very little. Most kids have way too many toys.
