a rectal temp reads 1 degree higher than the actual temp...so it's really 99...but that is considered normal for a baby that age.

100 is a temp. It also depends on what time of thermometer you are using. If you use a digital then u add 1 degree to it, but if it is a regular one then the temp is what was read. You did the right thing by taking it rectally, that is the best way to get an infants temp. You should watch the child closely and try to reduce the temp with Tylenol or some other time of fever reducer. Make sure they are getting plenty of fluids.

100.o is a lsight fever but nothing to be alarmed about. You baby could be teething or just have a little bug. Give the baby some tylenol and just watch the temp. Babies have a much higher threshold for higher temps than adults do. So what may be really high for an adult say 103 isn't as alarming as in an infant.

i actually have a sheet somewhere that says what temp is normal if taken form different areas....i would call you r doc and ask or look up rectal temperature on the internet it should tell you...if you cant find anything or get a hold of anyone then i would just give the baby a little tylenol just on case....100 is only slight and wont do any harm..

100 is a tad high but just leave your child alone. Give him plenty of liquids to keep hydrated. Temperature is elevated for some reason or another. Just check on him and his body will take care of itself. A fever is the body's way to kill off infection. A tylenol will inhibit the body's natural process.

Rectal temp is one degree higher tan what it is. Your babies normal temp is 99, take away a degree if you take it rectally. So your baby at this time only has .o4 of a degree of temp.

With a rectal thermometer, you always subtract one degree. If the thermometer reads 100.0, her temperature is actually only 99.

Generally 100.0 is classed as a fever. Its not recommended that temperatures are taken from the rectum anymore though as you can inadvertently cause damage. Under the armpit is fine and you can buy special aural (ear) thermometers which are much safer.

Fever. This is considered a slight fever for everyone so considering it's a baby this is a fever and concern.
