Some classifications put the skunks in a subfamily of Mustelidae (the Mephitinae), while other classifications raise the skunks to the family level themselves, the Mephitidae.

Either way, the skunks are certainly closely related to the other mustelids (weasels, otters, wolverine). They share a number of features in their teeth and skull morphology, most notably the distinctive enclosed glenoid fossa in the jaw joint.

Yes and so is the badger and the wolverine and the civet cat and the tasmanian devil and a whole bunch of other ill tempered critters that stink. They say the tasmanian devil smells like a 1000 times worse than the worst skunk. All of them belong to the weasel family in general I think.

No. It is of the family Mephitidae. Mustildae are polecats and although skunks and polecats may look similar, they're not.
