I turned on the Hotpoint selfcleaning oven. How long does it take to clean? and does it always smell like something is burning?

not sure about the time, but YES, it always smells like something's burning. Because something IS burning. Everything leftover in the oven is what's being burned off. Basically, when the process is done, theres nothing left but carbon remains. Which easily comes off.
Self cleaning ovens don't actually clean, they just make the clean up easier by turning all of the leftover food into easy to clean up carbon residue.

It self-cleans by getting so hot that all the baked on crud turns into ash. So, it will smell like something burning. I don't know for your specific oven but it may take about 2 or 3 hours.

Depends on the oven - 2 to 6 hours.
Depends on what is inside of your oven... but, typically there is always a faint smell of "something" burning.
As a rule, wipe down your oven before cleaning and you'll reduce the "burining smells" at bit.

Self cleaning oven take at least a couple of hour max 3.5 though.
always smell. DO NOT LEAVE, GO TO BED OR NAP TIL YOU KNOW ITS DONE. EXCESSIVES SMOKE IS NOT GOOD.

3h on 600 degrees and that should do the trick and yeah it will kinda smell like somthing is burning when you do it even though it is a self cleaning oven i would get an oven cleaner there alot faster

It takes 4 hours and 20 minutes if you don' tset it for a different time first. Also, it smells like its burning because it burns off the grease and food.
