I think that this is hard to answer, because even if you do something nice for someone else that seems to have no tangible benefit for yourself, and even if the other person never finds out, the fact that YOU know you did it is enough to make you feel good, and that could be said to be a 'non-selfless' motive... the only thing I can think of would be giving your own life to save someone else's - and even then, only if nobody else knows you did it, as being thought of as a hero could be a motive!

Yes and no. While someone can do something good for someone else without expecting anything in return, they usually do get something from the experience, even if it is only the good feeling you get when you help someone.

i think they do,,back when the hurricanes went thur florida 2 years ago,,alot of the older people couldn't get out and clean up and kids went around and did it for them and didn't ask for a thing,refused money and things when the people tried to give it to them.
