A diplomat visited Iraq in the early months of 1990 and met Saddam. Saddam was worried because, he told the diplomat, Iraq is now so well developed - roads, schools, hospitals, universities for women as well as men, etc., etc,- that the Americans don't like it, because they prefer us to be part of the third world.
